Switzerland
Zurich – Mt Titlis – Lucerne - Schaffhausen - Rhine falls - Black Forest - Jungfraujoch
About Destination
Switzerland is a federal republic located in western-central Europe, bordering France, Italy, Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany. Its capital is Bern. The country is geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura mountains.
Switzerland is known for its mountains, rolling hills, plains, and large lakes. It houses three of Europe’s major languages: German, French and Italian. As a result, the culture is divided by its languages: each part of Switzerland is characterized by influences of the bordering country that shares its language.
Surely worth a stop in Switzerland are the Castle of Chillon, the Lavaux vineyards, the Castles of Bellinzona, the Abbey of St. Gallen, the Top of Europe and the Sphinx observatory, the Grande Dixence dam, and the Landwasser viaduct. The country also has seven natural wonders: the Matterhorn mountain, the northern walls of the Jungfrau and Eiger mountains, the Aletsch Glacier, the lakes of the Upper Engadine, the Lake Lucerne, the Oeschinensee lake, and the Rhine Falls.
Switzerland is the birthplace of the Red Cross, and it is home to many international organisations, such as the second largest UN office. It is a founding member of the European Free Trade Association, but is notably not part of the EU or the EEA.
